We know COVID-19 is having significant economic impacts and challenging the ability of some Albertans to make residential rent payments on time.
To help Albertans meet these challenges:
No one will be evicted April 1 for non-payment of rent.
+We are temporarily suspending civil enforcements of evictions currently underway for tenants for non-payment of rent (effective until April 30).
No one will see their rent increase while Alberta’s State of Public Health Emergency remains in effect.
No one will pay late fees for missing their rent payments over the next three months.
+We are prohibiting landlords from adding additional fees for late payment of rent in residential properties and mobile home sites from April 1 to June 30.
Landlords and tenants need to work together to develop flexible payments plans as we collectively manage the impacts of COVID-19.
+This requirement will remain in place while Alberta’s State of Public Health Emergency remains in effect.
We are asking landlords to be flexible and forgiving of their residential tenants’ financial circumstances, and we are asking tenants to use their income to pay their rent as fully and consistently as possible.
